Ingredients

For the cupcakes:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

For the cream cheese frosting:
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper liners.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until combined. Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking to combine after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and sour cream.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.

4. Divide the batter among the muffin cups, filling each cup about 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting.

5. For the cream cheese frosting, beat together the cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating until combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
