Ingredients
For the cupcakes:
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg

- ½ cup buttermilk
For the frosting:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- ½ cup butter, softened

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each cup about ¾ full. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
