Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder


For the filling:
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon


For the glaze:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons warm water

Instructions

To make the dough:

  • In a small bowl, combine the yeast, warm water, and 1 teaspoon of the sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes or until the mixture is foamy.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter and remaining sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and mix until combined.
  • Add the yeast mixture, flour, salt, and cocoa powder to the bowl. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.


To make the filling:
  • In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Mix until combined.


To assemble the rolls:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface into a 16x20-inch rectangle.
  • Spread the filling evenly over the dough and then roll up the dough lengthwise. Cut the dough into 12-15 even sized rolls.
  • Place the rolls in the prepared pan. Cover with a damp towel and let rise for 20 minutes.
  • Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.


To make the glaze:
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of warm water. Add more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the glaze is thick but pourable.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and serve.
