Ingredients

For the cupcakes:

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

- 3/4 cup granulated sugar

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

- 2 large eggs

- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

- 1/2 cup cocoa powder

- 1/2 cup buttermilk

- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips


For the frosting:

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

- 2 cups powdered sugar

- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder

- 2 tablespoons heavy cream

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, for decoration

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and melted butter. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

4. Add the cocoa powder and mix until combined.

5. Add the flour mixture and the buttermilk in alternating batches, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

6. Fold in the chocolate chips.

7. Fill the cupcake liners three-quarters of the way full with batter. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.



For the frosting:

1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar. Add the cocoa powder, heavy cream, and vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

2. Spread the frosting on top of the cooled cupcakes and sprinkle with the remaining chocolate chips.

Notes
